Stem Cells Are an Alternative to Surgery
Many patients have turned to Stem Cell Therapy as a better alternative to surgery to improve tendon and skeletal muscle repair, with an easier and faster recovery and significantly less complications.
Skeletal muscle injuries can occur due to trauma such as strains, tears and contusions. Skeletal muscle can regenerate completely and spontaneously in response to minor injuries. However, severe or chronic problems hinder muscle healing and impair muscle function.
Tendon injuries can occur as a consequence of trauma associated with sports or due to age-related tendon degeneration, which renders them susceptible to ruptures and tendonitis. Unlike skeletal muscle, tendons have poor healing capacity.
Surgery is often recommended as a treatment for several muscle and tendon pain conditions. However, surgery has some risks, including pain, blood clots, reactions to anesthesia, infections or muscle loss. It requires being hospitalized for a few days. Furthermore, the recovery from surgery may be relatively slow, often requiring a period of a few months with restricted use of the affected muscle or tendon, followed by a period of physical rehabilitation that can last several months. In many cases, functionality may not be fully recovered even after surgery, which can limit movements.
How Does Stem Cell Therapy for Muscle and Tendon Pain Work?
Stem cells are part of our body’s natural healing resources. They continually renew our cells throughout our body, including our joints and tendons. Typically, a single stem cell injection should be sufficient to yield good results and to repair most foot and ankle injuries. How Does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy for Muscle and Tendon Pain Work?
Platelet rich plasma is a portion of the patient’s own blood that is obtained by a simple method of centrifuging a blood sample. Platelet rich plasma has a high concentration of growth factors that activate the stem cells and that prompt them to produce additional growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines, thereby changing the environment in the foot or ankle from inflammatory to healing and regenerating.
We frequently use Platelet Rich Plasma treatment for simple tendinopathy or tendonitis.
